How it works

  1. Setup

Ensure your recording environment is professional with eight quick steps.

Auto Audiobook Studio can help beginners check their recording environment, set their gain, and diagnose common recording issues early before they spend hours recording and realize they have to redo all that work later. Audio experts can skip this step.

Setup: a line read aloud for the level check, which says the level is right; the room check listening to ten seconds of quiet, which says the room is ready; then the summary of the set-up
  2. Import

Import your manuscript, and Auto Audiobook Studio will parse names and fantasy words into a custom dictionary.

Plain text, EPUBs, PDFs, and Word files are all supported. You can edit your manuscript in the app and export it again later, import more chapters, or even import pre-recorded WAV and MP3 files into the app.

Import: a manuscript added to a new project and its three chapters found, then the custom dictionary listing the book’s invented names, with a spelling typed for one
  3. Record

Press Space to start recording and the cursor follows you as you read.

You can take long pauses, jump around in the script, and do as many retakes as you want during your recording without worrying about an editing headache later because as soon as you stop the current clip, Auto Audiobook Studio will splice your take into a finished preview in seconds.

Record: Space starts recording, and the cursor moves through the script word by word as the text is read aloud
  4. Detect

Auto Audiobook Studio will listen while you read and alert you of potential errors and mispronunciations

It’s never fun realizing you mispronounced a word a week later when you’re editing your recordings. It’s even worse when you don’t notice and the flub ends up in your finished audiobook. Auto Audiobook Studio raises ‘pings’ within seconds to warn you of potential issues so you can do your retakes while you’re already in the zone. You can right-click to replay the clip and see whether it’s a false alarm and press delete to dismiss it.

Detect: a misread word pinged a few seconds after it is said; then the ping right-clicked to play the word again, and dismissed with Delete
  5. Retake

Never splice a take or trim a pause again

Auto Audiobook Studio can take care of all of your clip editing for you in real time. Retakes are automatically moved onto their own layers, so you can swap between them. Manual editing is supported too, so you can drag out long pauses or import your own sound effects and music.

Retake: a stumbled reading on its own layer under the clean one while the clean one plays, then one word switched to the other take from its menu
  6. Edit

    Advanced audio editing features

Silence breaths, cut mouth clicks, and remove background hum with advanced audio editing features.

Edit: the click killer marking mouth clicks and thumps on the waveform, the click, breath and thump remover turned on beside hum removal, then the chapter cleaned and what was fixed
  7. Export

Check your files against audiobook distributor standards

Automatically check loudness, true peaks, noise floor, and room tone to ensure your audio files meet the technical requirements of all major distributors.

Export: the finished MP3 written and checked against Audible’s rules for level, peaks, noise floor, room tone at each end, length and format

FAQ

Does Auto Audiobook Studio run on Mac?

Not yet. Auto Audiobook Studio runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) only, and works with any USB or XLR microphone.

What type of files can I import into Auto Audiobook Studio?

Manuscript files may be Word (DOCX), EPUB, PDF, plain text, or Markdown, or pasted in. Audio files may be MP3, M4A, M4B, WAV or FLAC.

What type of files can Auto Audiobook Studio export?

For your finalized exports, Auto Audiobook Studio can export one MP3, FLAC, or WAV per chapter, or one M4B for the whole book, depending on the audiobook platforms you plan to upload to. Different platforms expect different file formats. Auto Audiobook Studio can also export your raw audio as WAV files. It can export your manuscript text as TXT or DOCX, and you can export the entire project to share as a ZIP file.

Is my manuscript or voice uploaded to your servers?

Auto Audiobook Studio runs completely locally, so your files never have to leave your machine. If you sign up to provide feedback to improve the app, small clips of audio may be sent to our support server. This feature is off by default, and you can learn more about what that feature collects by reading the opt-in disclaimer in the app.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After a one-time download of its models, Auto Audiobook Studio works without the internet. The license checks in online once every 30 days.

Does this app use AI?

Auto Audiobook Studio uses several locally installed models, including speech-to-text, pronunciation checkers, noise checkers, and other non-generative models, to analyze your recordings. It also uses a text-to-speech model to play how a word should sound in your pronunciation dictionary.

Can I bring my own models?

We provide recommended models based on your system and our internal testing, but you can swap out most of the models with your own.

Is there a free demo?

Yes. You can download the app and test out all features, but it is limited to 5 minutes per chapter (15 minutes in all) and exporting audio is locked.

How does the preorder work?

Preordering is free. Nothing is charged now. When Auto Audiobook Studio launches, we will email you, and you have 14 days to buy at the $99 founder price. A license covers 2 PCs and includes all updates.

Can I get a refund?

Every purchase has a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What are the minimum system requirements?

We recommend the following:

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • A processor with 4 cores and 8 threads. For example an Intel Core i5 8th generation, or an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U.
  • 8 GB of memory.
  • 5 GB of free disk space, plus about 0.6 GB for each hour you record.

No graphics card is needed. We support more advanced models for more powerful systems, but you can download the demo to test your system. Auto Audiobook Studio may perform slowly on laptops running off of battery or when you are using multiple apps at once.
